So, due to today’s events, I am locking myself in the bedroom while my dear husband takes his turn at scrubbing the couch, and I’m going to chat with you people about L’Oréal. That must cheer me up!

I have a theory about L’Oréal…

OK, let’s get to the makeup.

Using (mostly) L’Oréal makeup, I created this look here…

First I tried L’Oréal true match Lumi cushion Foundation, and if you haven’t heard of these new cushion foundations, they’re generally sponges soaked in foundation and put into a compact.

Weird, right? I’m a little confused by the whole concept myself, but tons of brands have been doing them, so there need to be some perk!

I actually thought it was incredibly convenient. It comes with a little puff that you dip into the product, then pat on your face. I like it because you don’t need a separate brush. everything you need is ideal there, although you absolutely could use another brush or sponge if you like the application better. just make sure anything you dip in there is incredibly clean. It seems like this product could be a playground for nasty bacteria.

The coverage is pretty light but does build up to be about a medium coverage. I don’t think you’d be able to get up to full coverage with this one. As you can see below, it won’t cover any massive creatures chillin’ on your chin.

As the name suggests, it also gives you the most gaw-geous luminous glow, and I’m all about dat glow. this one is a real winner for me!

Next up is this cute little brow kit, the L’Oréal Brow Stylist Prep & shape pro Kit. this one here is in shade “medium to dark”.

How great would this be just to chuck in your bag and have for touch-ups?! It comes with a wax, a powder, a little angled brush with a spoolie on the end, and a pair of little tweezers.

I think the product itself is excellent, but it’s just not for me, just like every other powder brow product I’ve tried. I think that powders don’t work for my brows because, let’s be honest, they’re kind of massive.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my full brows, but I feel like powders just make them look too huge and fuzzy. That probably makes no sense, but pencils just work so much better for me.

If you love using powders and waxes on your brows, get this. I really think you’ll love it.

Ugh, great. I’ve discovered a lot more great eye shadows, which indicates that I have to get every shade, and I really don’t need any more.

“Why not just show some restraint and not get more, Jen?” you may ask. Well, because I am an addict, so I don’t have a choice. At least that’s the story I’m going with.

The shadows I’m talking about are the L’Oréal Colour Riche Monos Eye Shadows. I’m regretting ever using the descriptive word “buttery” for another eye shadow because I really need to use that word for these.

They’re just so buttery! — like literal butter. It’s actually a little bit trippy. They’re a powder, but they nearly feel like a cream. The pigmentation is amaze-balls (also wishing I saved that word for these), too, as is the blendability.

I used the shade called “Green Promenade” all over the lid, “Little beige Dress” as a transition shade, and “Cafe Au Late” to deepen the outer corner.

Then I wanted to try out the L’Oréal Voluminous Superstar Red Carpet Black Flash Reflecting Mascara. this one has two steps — a priming step, then the actual black mascara. According to Paula’s choice (which is a very valuable site, BTW), the witch hazel plant contains tannins that vary depending on what part of the plant is used. higher amounts in the bark, and lower concentrations in the leaves.

The plant also contains a potent antioxidant.

The water is made using a process called “steam distillation,” and during the process different parts of the plant are added to the mix, so you don’t always know what concentration of tannins you’ll get at the end.

Steam distillation also involves alcohol, so you’re getting that in your witch hazel water, too.

So, depending on which parts of the witch hazel plant are used and how they’re prepared, witch hazel products can contain high amounts of tannins and/or alcohol, both which can be irritating for some people.

I remember using witch hazel on my super oily teenage skin back in the day… I’d get a bottle of witch hazel from the drugstore and use it periodically, thinking that it would control the oil and dry out my zits. So I’ve used it before, but it’s been almost 30 years! and my skin has changed a lot in that time. The only part of my face that’s oily now is my forehead. everywhere else is dry.

I applied beauty Water on my face with a cotton pad morning and evening for a week and a half, and it worked well on my oily forehead, but everything below my brows wasn’t happy at all. My skin feels tight, dry and just plain thirsty after I use it, like I just spent a week in vegas in August and wasn’t drinking enough water.

I’m not sure what I’m reacting to, but I’m guessing that it’s either the witch hazel or the alcohol, both of which appear high on the ingredient list.

People rave about this product, though. I’m assuming that it works better for gals and guys with oilier skin than mine. It certainly reduces the oil.

If you’re interested, the bottle is pretty huge. It’s 11.49 ounces. I bet if it worked for me, I could make it last seven or eight months.

No, I think I’m just confusing you with another UD palette (Naked on the Run)…or maybe it’s because I’ve seen your same (or very similar) colors in other urban Decay palettes before.

Urban Decay born to Run Eyeshadow palette ($49, 21 shades, full-size mirror)

According to UD, 17 of the 21 eyeshadows in the born to Run palette are new, but I swear, the orange-y and reddish browns look like they teleported straight outta naked heat and the petite version.

I like the homegrown travel diary pics on the front!
And the metallic magenta, green and purple could’ve been pulled out of the Distortion or trouble maker palettes. The peach and golden look familar, too…like a few shades from Daydream.

It’s as if UD went fishing for shadows from their other recent palettes and baked them into a wearable “everything” palette — good for anyone, any time, any place.

The wear time on these rocks, BTW. Stranded, Weekender and Riff last at least 11 hours on top of eye primer, without fading, creasing or scooting around.
Makeup in my current corner of the world is normally pretty casual and conducive to writing at home, chasing Tabs around the house, running errands and taking Connor to toddler things, so I’m all about the shadows in top row, which are the most job/errand/everyday-friendly ones.

For the most part here at the headquarters of Tabs the cat industries LLC, the employees (haha, it’s just me) don’t like to wear makeup that looks too overdone (it’s a rare day when I don falsies or do dramatic liquid liner), so I like wearing matte beige Weekender with matte golden brown Riff in the crease, and shimmery pale rose gold Stranded on my lids with a teeny bit of satiny dark emerald Radio on my upper lash lines as a liner.

Don’t mind me… just smiling to myself on this bridge, la-la-laaaaa! ?

While I’m sure born to Run would be fab on longer trips, I can only vouch for it on trips to the library for story time, the gardening store (my dill plant has aphids, gah!), and to Tar-ghay to get tubs of baby kale.

It handles all of those errands with aplomb.

Also, I like that these shadows look the same in pics taken with a studio flash as they do in selfies taken outside — whichever way, they don’t look too heavy or too sparkly — and they don’t make my lids look covered in hella lines.

When you’re taking a selfie outside the library and trying to be all smooth about it…
Biggest pros: the shades are very pigmented, so I don’t have to apply layer upon layer to see the colors, and none of the colors so far (*knocks on wood*) irritate my sensitive eyes.

Biggest cons: they’re nearly too easy to blend… I know that sounds crazy, but they’re much easier to push around than other UD eyeshadows. Like, when I did my first pass at this palette, I actually wiped off that first attempt and started all over again because the shimmer went too high and too far out as I blended. I didn’t anticipate that.

No biggie…but it took a minute to get used to.

So, the grains will go wherever you want them to, but then they’ll go past that point, so I feel like I have to be extra careful with placement on my lids; otherwise, funny eyeshadow.

Urban Decay born to Run
Also, there is some fallout with these, but it’s not an epic amount. fallout with the mattes and satins is reasonable, but with the shinier metallics, you’ll probably need to clean up with a makeup wipe before putting on foundation.

I’ve been feeling like the colors in UD’s other palettes over the past months have leaned a lot more artsy/Instagrammy than practical, but this one seems practical. And, real talk…I love how the shadows don’t age my lids. I think if you’re shadow savvy and can manage blending a fairly complex look, you can have fun with this variety of colors and finishes.

That said, if you can’t blend for sh*t, well, this one’s gonna be tricky.

I’ve absolutely seen iterations of these colors in other UD palettes, so born to Run isn’t groundbreaking, but I think it’s a stunning overall, no doubt.

It’s worth a spin if you haven’t pulled the activate on another UD palette lately (like within the past couple years), and especially if you wear neutrals a lot, but also like wearing color every once in a while.

First things first, swatched on my arms…this palette looks like a hot mess. several of the shadows swatch unevenly, which is kind of disconcerting (it’s $75 after all). One might logically assume that the rough arm swatches imply patchy application problems on lids, too, but that hasn’t been the case for me.

So far I’ve done three different looks with this palette, and the shadows applied fairly evenly in all three. Blending hasn’t been bad either, and most of the shadows I’ve used look more pigmented on my lids than they do in arm swatches (weird!). I’ve also noticed very, very little fallout. like almost none.

It would be easy to dismiss this palette based on arm swatches alone, but you really gotta get in there and work it to see what it can do. You gotta drive the automobile first, so to speak.
